Guide to Hospitals in Pattaya

Pattaya, Thailand, is a popular tourist destination and a favored location for expatriates due to its vibrant culture, beautiful beaches, and high-quality healthcare facilities. The city is only 1.5 hours from Bangkok, so it is very easy to get to.

Pattaya has an older demographic compared to the islands; people love to come and retire here due to the low cost of living and amazing weather, amongst other things. For expats, navigating healthcare in Pattaya is crucial for both emergency and routine health needs.

While public hospitals like Queen Sirikit Naval and the Red Cross Hospital offer services, they generally have long wait times and limited English-speaking staff, making private hospitals the most popular choice.  It’s also worth noting that some medical insurance companies do not pay out for government hospital treatment.

Private hospitals in Pattaya provide services that meet Western standards, with English-speaking doctors, many of whom have received international education.

Bangkok Hospital Pattaya is highly recommended for routine health check-ups, general practitioners, ENT doctors, diabetes specialists, and skin doctors. It has dedicated departments for specific treatments like diabetes mellitus and Endocrinology. For eye care, Pattaya Eye Center and Bangkok Hospital Pattaya’s Eye Center are the go-to places, offering specialized services like cataract surgery.

We have broken down the list of Pattaya hospitals into public and private facilities.

Pattaya Private Hospitals

Bangkok Hospital Pattaya

Thailand’s largest medical group owns this hospital, which is recognized by the Joint Commission International as one of the largest privately owned hospitals in Southeast Asia. Located on Sukhumvit Road, it provides premium healthcare services, including advanced diagnostic and treatment tools, dental, and cosmetic surgery departments. It’s known for its multilingual staff and fully equipped ambulances.

Though this hospital is world-class, it is regarded as one of the most expensive for treatment.  If you are having a small procedure done, and not covered by insurance, it will be worth shopping around.

Government-Run Hospitals

Pattaya City Hospital – seems to have a terrible review on Google

If you have medical insurance, you need to check they will pay out for treatment in Government hospitals. Many insurers do not have direct relationships with the Bangkok hospital group.

Hospitals also operate a two-tier pricing system; you will likely pay twice the price of treatment compared to a Thai person.

If you require a small procedure, it’s sometimes worth traveling out of the ‘tourist zone’ to get some quotes.  Government hospitals in Rayong and  Chachoengsao provinces will likely be significantly cheaper.

Pattaya City Hospital

Pattaya City Hospital is a key public healthcare facility in Pattaya, offering a wide range of medical services to both locals and tourists. It is equipped with modern medical technology and provides comprehensive care, including emergency services, outpatient and inpatient treatments, and specialized medical procedures.

This hospital does not have the best reviews from expats and foreigners and is probably best avoided.  Local Thais generally use it under the universal health program.
